Obituary

Beverly “June” Johnson, age 82, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022. She was born on June 28, 1940, to Carl and Helen (Ericksen) Johnson in Aurora, IL.

June got her bachelor’s degree at Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL in English Lit, with minors in philosophy and music. She worked at Rand McNally, Catholic Charities (social worker), G.D. Searle, and retired in 2005 as the manager for Medical Physics Publishing. One of her greatest passions was music, and she sang in two Unitarian Universalist Church choirs, as well as other community choirs. Opera was a special love of hers, and she listened to recordings and radio broadcasts, as well as attending concerts. She also played the clarinet and was an avid reader. She loved traveling, and spent time in Sweden, Spain, England and other European countries. June’s hobbies included photography and gardening, and she was an active member of the Wisconsin Daylily Society. She also enjoyed spending time with her extended family, especially the children (great-nieces and nephews).

June is survived by her niece Lynn (Evan) Fry, nephew Bob Hardy and nephew Tim (Caryn) Hardy, as well as many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Richard Johnson, Marilyn Lohnstein, and Ann Hardy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 11:00 am, First Unitarian Society, 900 University Bay Dr, Madison, WI.

I loved next door to June for 21 years and could not have had a more wonderful person as a neighbor. She will be greatly missed in my life. Mike Meskill

June was a neighbor of my mom and dad's for many years. She was incredibly kind and thoughtful. I will always remember how, after my dad's open-heart surgery and difficult recovery, I looked out my parent's window one evening and saw that June had spelled out "Be well, Don" in Christmas lights across her front bushes. Such an amazing gesture that brought great comfort to my parents. After my dad passed, June always watched out for my mom. She brought the morning newspaper up to my mom's front door every morning without fail, and would often leave a sweet note or baked treat for my mom. June was a kind, interesting and interested woman. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend, and we will never forget her gentle kindness. Our sympathies to her family.

June was such a kind and gentle soul. She always seemed upbeat and a good listener. I will truly miss her at the Wisconsin Daylily Society functions. She was very active with our club. I will miss her deeply.
