Obituary
Madison – Thomas L. “Tom” O’Donnell, age 87, passed away on January 30, 2023 at his residence. Thomas was born the fifth son to parents James and Mary O’Donnell on November 28, 1935 in Rolling Ground, Wisconsin.
Tom was a 1953 high school graduate from Gays Mills and later went on to attend Madison Business College. He worked in construction until he was hired by the USPS, where he remained working for 37 years until his retirement. He married Teresa Ann McGargle on May 12, 1962 at St. Philip Catholic Church in Rolling Ground, Wisconsin. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Kickapoo Kids, the National Association of Letter Carriers, as well as a charter member of St. Peter Catholic Church and he coached the east side Madison little league. He enjoyed watching Wisconsin sports and doing his beloved crosswords.
Tom is survived by his wife of 61 years Ann; 4 sons Patrick (Karen), Timothy (Carmen), Greg (Samantha), Brian (Pamela); 7 grandchildren Keith (Lindsay), Brittany (Andy), Rory, Casey (Christine), Sara (Eric), Grant (Bri), and Ryan; 5 great grandchildren Sophie, Jamison, Brennan, Jaxson, Elizabeth; siblings John (Betty), Joe (Virgie), Ann Peterson, Kay Boebel, and Robert (Jessica); sister-in-law Mary O’Donnell; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ed (Rosie), Jim (Mary Ann), and Fred; nephew, Mark O’Donnell; and brothers-in-law, Gary Peterson and Fred Boebel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the society of St. Vincent de Paul or to the Salvation Army of Dane County.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 5001 N. Sherman Ave, Madison. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave, Madison from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
