Obituary

Madison – Marguerite L. (Regan) Bernards, age 93, passed away on November 12, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. She was born on March 26, 1930, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin to parents Frank and Lenore (Durkin) Regan.

Marguerite graduated from Edgewood High School Madison in 1948. She married Joseph “Joe” Bernards on October 11, 1958, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hollandale. She enjoyed crocheting, playing euchre, baking, and cooking, and especially loved to polka dance. Above all she will remembered as being a good mother and aunt who loved her family dearly.

Marguerite is survived by her 2 children James “Jim” and Joann (Keith) Poirier; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph; sisters Mary (Thomas) Spellman and Terese (Charles) Burke; her parents; brother and sister in-laws William Bernards, Elizabeth (Francis) Schneider, Agnes (Theodore) Long, and Norbert (Wilma) Bernards.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at St. Mary’s Care Center for their care of Marguerite.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2116 Hollister Ave, Madison. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Road, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

My deepest sympathy to all of Marguerite's family. Marguerite and I shared an apartment in Madison in our early 20's and we had so many good times and good laughs together with our friends. Marguerite was such a nice and wonderful person and I loved her like a sister. Jeanette Clough
