Obituary

DEFOREST/MADISON – Mark W. Snell, age 82, passed away at the VA Hospital in Madison on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Mark was born on December 9, 1941, in Madison, WI to Maurice and Irene (Funnel) Snell. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy where he served for four years and later joined the Army Reserves for 17 years, which included Desert Storm. Mark was a CNA since 1985, retiring from Belmont Nursing Home at age 72. Mark married his best friend, Donna Meiritz, on April 22, 1995. He enjoyed playing and watching golf, dancing, John Wayne, reading, puzzles, fishing, and spending time with his family. His family will greatly miss his smile and loving personality.

Mark is survived by his wife of 28 years, Donna; children, Jay (Dee), Guy, Christina (John) Hartman, Laurie (Tim) Wade, Anthony Accola, Angela (Ken) Seddon, Melissa (Bret) Myers, Andrew Accola, Crystal (Darin) Gardner, and Timothy (Shirley) Accola; 25 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sister, Mary Lou (Bob) Sickel. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Mark is preceded in death by first wife, Melissa; and five siblings.

A Celebration of Life with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sage Meadows and the VA Hospital/Hospice for their care and support.

There will always be a special place in my heart for Mark. I have countless memories of Mark and his family from so many years ago. We were able to meet briefly and catch up several years ago when he was working at the hospital in Sauk City. I was so glad to see him. The obituary lists so many wonderful family members.
