Obituary

Waunakee - Mary Duss completed her earthly journey to eternal life on March 18, 2024. Mary was born on July 4, 1939, to Peter and Margaret (Muehlenbein) Duss of Boyd, Wisconsin.

Mary graduated from McDonell Memorial Catholic High School in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. She then attended Madison Area Technical College (Madison College) and University of Wisconsin Extension- both in Madison, Wisconsin.

Her work history of 48 years was First National Bank (US Bank) and M&I Bank of Madison (BMO Bank); PFS Corporation engineering company; and the State of Wisconsin in the Emergency Medical Education Center with the UW Medical School.

She was a member of Madison EOC - Employment Committee and Society for Human Resource Managers.

Mary advocated for people with disabilities with March of Dimes, International Year, National Year, and Decade for People with Disabilities. She was the chairperson for Dane County and City of Madison for the International Year.

Mary was caring; generously putting other individuals’ needs first. She enjoyed visiting people, singing, reading, bike riding, cooking, traveling, and Packers and Badgers football games.

She is survived by her one brother and three sisters and many other relatives. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South Street, Waunakee, WI, with Fr. Simon Tipps presiding. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Boyd, Wisconsin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 28, 2024.

Memorials-Mass stipends in Mary’s name can be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Waunakee or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boyd.

My sympathy to those that knew and loved her. We became friends when we were roommates in Madison in 1961. Over the years we have maintained contact through visits, letters and phone calls. Our phone calls were always an hour or more. I will miss her.

I am so sad to learn of Mary's passing. I've known her since the late 1980's and she was like an aunt to me. In fact, she is responsible for getting me hired at M&I way back when. She was so kind and thoughtful and has been missed. I am glad she is with her Heavenly Father and my sympathies are with her family.
