VERONA/SUN PRAIRIE – Kay E. Hankins, age 67, died unexpectedly at Meriter Hospital on Thursday, April 4th, 2024.
Kay was born on September 12th, 1956 in Sterling, IL , the daughter of Alvin “Tiny” and Virginia (Hildebrand) Hinrichs of Tennessee.
Kay met her sweetheart and love of her life, Gerald Hankins, right after high school. They married on December 28th, 1974. Kay and Gerald started a family and raised two wonderful sons.
Kay is survived by her sons Jeffrey (Stacy) of Madison, Jeremy (Victoria) of Prentice; her mother, Virginia Hinrichs of Tennessee; brothers, Kevin (Connie) of New Mexico, Kent of New Mexico, Kraig (Rutchel) of Tennessee; and her one and only grandchild, her pride and joy, Hunter. She is further survived by many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Kay is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Gerald; brother, Kurt Hinrichs; and her father Alvin Hinrichs.
Kay was a CNA for many years, at the VA and Badger Prairie Health Care Center. She took pride in her job and made many life-long friends.
Kay loved arts and crafts, particularly making afghans for her family and friends, camping, cooking, baking, playing cards and games. Kay enjoyed every moment she could with her family, especially her grandson. She shared unconditional love with her family and friends.
A Celebration of Kay’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11:00am at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 220 Enterprise Drive, Verona, with Pastor Peter Narum presiding. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00am until time of service.
