Obituary
MADISON – It is with a heavy heart that the family and friends of Jason Childress, 47, mourn his unexpected passing on April 16, 2024. Jason was big on life in both his personal and professional life. From being a friend, advocating tirelessly for the Boys and Girls Club organization, or working as a Public Affairs Director in the Madison office, you could always count on him. If you were being harassed by bullies, he was there to do whatever he could to make you safe. This drive for honorable actions aligned with his many friends and their children who knew him as Uncle Chili. Jason loved his many travels around the world over the years, and he was especially blessed towards the end to travel to Mexico with Amy. In addition to his wonderful life experiences, Jason had a vast and thriving political career which began in 1994. During this time Jason was actively involved in the Democratic Party both in Wisconsin and nationally. He joined Foley in December 2008 after six years as the Executive Director of the State Senate Democratic Committee. In that role, he served three Wisconsin Senate democratic leaders as their chief political and campaign strategist. Jason was the architect of the democrats’ successful bid to regain the majority in the Wisconsin State Senate in 2006. He was an outstanding advocate for the firm and their clients. We will miss the amazing man that he was and the many photos and narratives of Jason’s vast life experiences. One such instance that shows Jason’s endless love was a very special gift given to Papa Chili, which was a paid trip to Germany to visit his brother Matthew. They were able to visit the world-famous Nuremberg Ring, the BMW assembly plant in Munich and many other special locations in Germany. Jason is survived by his daughter, Olivia Ratts, mother, Barbara Bushue, father, Steven Childress, brother, Matthew Childress, stepbrother, Eric Mackie, and stepsisters, Cheri Wiegman and Lisa Murfitt.
