Obituary
Madison – Joyce A. Faust passed away in the early dawn hours of May 13, 2024, at Agrace Hospice just as the birds began chirping. They were welcoming her to heaven.
Dad always said she never sits still, and it took dementia and a fall to stop her.
Joyce is enjoying a reunion with her father Joe, at the Echo Tavern on West Main Street, just a block away from her childhood home. Enjoy that beer, Mom!
Joyce was born May 29, 1930, in Madison Wisconsin to Leona and Joseph Esser. She attended Holy Redeemer and went on to graduate from Central High School in 1948. Her first job was at the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal County Employees. She married Robert Faust on October 11, 1952, at St. Raphael’s Cathedral.
After retirement, Joyce and Bob spent many happy times at the family cottage in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Weekends saw the grandchildren spending countless hours fishing, boating, putting pennies on the railroad tracks, going to the frog pond, and campfires. On the Fourth of July weekend every inch of sleeping space was taken!
Joyce is survived by her four daughters Kaye Mezera, Sue Faust (John Evans), Mary Sams, and JoAnne Nelson; six grandchildren Mike (Silvie) Mezera, Matt (Trista) Mezera, Michelle (Preston) O’Neal, Kristina (TJ) Nichols, Samantha Nelson, and Shannen Nelson; eight great grandchildren Oliver Mezera, Everly Mezera, Everett Mezera, Eoin Mezera, Preston O’Neal, Joseph O’Neal, Joy Nichols, and Harmony Nichols.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; parents; brother Gordon; sons-in-law Paul Sams and Loran Mezera.
Memorials can be made to Agrace Hospice in Joyce’s name.
A special thank you to the team at the Skaalen Magnolia Gardens and to Agrace Hospice for Joyce’s peaceful passing.
