Raelyn Eannelli
December 04, 1952 - July 02, 2024
Obituary
Raelyn “Rae” Katherine (Foley) Eannelli was a compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who thrived on creating joy. Rae was given by God on December 4, 1952, and returned to God on July 2, 2024, at the age of 71. Her sudden departure leaves a deep void, which is eased when recalling cherished moments spent with her.
Born in Madison, WI, Rae was the second daughter of Joseph “Joe” Foley and Elizabeth “Bette” (Dunn) Foley. She spent her childhood enjoying baton twirling, hula hooping, and cheerleading. She also loved horseback riding in rural Wisconsin.
Rae fostered an appreciation for education. In 1971, she graduated from Edgewood High School in Madison and then attended the University of Wisconsin Madison for nursing. Her ability to comfort and intelligence made nursing a natural profession. She later earned a Master's Degree as a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner specializing in Critical Care. She practiced at Memorial VA Hospital Madison and later at Eannelli Pharmacy. Her knowledge and soothing touch benefited countless people.
As a UW Madison student, she met the love of her life, Michael “Mike” Eannelli, a future pharmacist. They were married on September 17, 1976, and spent the next nearly 48 years doting on each other. Their union produced life’s most incredible adventure, having four children in five years, including Irish triplets. Many pug dogs added to the beautiful chaos. Some of the most memorable moments with Rae came from kitchen table chats, road trips to the Alabama Gulf Shores, and endless poolside gatherings.
The doors to her home were always open to friends and family, and Rae hosted numerous celebrations. She was a fantastic cook and always cooked copiously, even as an empty nester. Gardening gave her peace. Rheumatoid arthritis hampered her ability to garden later in life. Her medications offered short-lived relief that peaked at night, so she often tended her garden by flashlight, earning her the endearing nickname “The Midnight Gardener.”
Rae was honored to be “Nana” to her six grandchildren. She always joyfully beamed when they were mentioned and loved spoiling them with gifts.
Rae’s legacy continues through her husband, Mike; Four children: Kate Eannelli (“Lily” McLeish), Dana (Mike) Lofgren, Dominic Eannelli, Mike “Spike” (Shannon) Eannelli; Six grandchildren: Lucca Baltz Eannelli, Elle & Claire Lofgren, Bria Eannelli, Oliver “Ollie” & Rocco Eannelli. She is also survived by her sister, Stephanie Rettig, nieces, nephew, and Bella the Pug. Preceding her in death were her parents, niece Elizabeth “Liz” Rettig, and brother-in-law Reuel “Butch” Rettig.
She touched the lives of many, including dear friends: Paula and Bob Bauer, Kay and Stan Muchow. As we say goodbye to Rae, we remember her as the woman who blessed every life she encountered with her infectious Irish spirit, bright personality, and caring touch. It was our privilege to have known her and experienced her beautiful heart.
A private service for immediate family will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace, with a celebration of life to be determined at a later date. Please check Ryan Funeral Home’s website for updates.
