I was age 9 (Janet was 16) when I broke my leg in a friend's backyard. Janet swooped me up in her arms and carried me the block or so to my house. Thanks to her, the fracture was "neat" and only needed a cast—which was bad enough, of course, for me. But she was my hero that day. Janet was a few years older than most of us in the neighborhood, but she loved to play baseball with us on a nearby lot. She hit a home run every time! I never saw her again after she left for college but have fond memories of her.

Jan was such a fun member of our P.E.O. chapter. I loved to hear her stories tell stories of her experiences teaching kids art in Europe. She was a giving person. Sending hugs of comfort to her family and friends. - Diane
