Obituary
VERONA – Joan Irene Miller, age 90, passed away at Noel Manor on October 5, 2024. Joan was born on August 1, 1934, in Madison, WI to Alex and Irene (Gunkel) Miller. She grew up in Verona and graduated from Verona High School in 1953. Joan worked at the State of Wisconsin, A&W and EZ Gregory, but she was best at being a homemaker and caregiver. She loved dancing, collecting dolls, listening to music, playing cards, crafting, cuddling with her furry 4-legged friends and was quite the quilter. Joan spent her entire life living in Verona and for 33 years spent her winters in Mesa, AZ. Joan was very sociable and enjoyed being around people. Joan always said her greatest accomplishment in life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she cherished spending time with.
Joan is survived by her children, Fritz (Sheri) Durst of Waunakee, Michael (Janice Antoniewicz) of Verona and Pam (Greg) Denner of Ridgeway; grandchildren, Ryan (Emily) Durst, Jeremy (Corissa) Durst, Jordan (Mike) Decello, Missy (Casey) Kakuske and Jenny (Rob) Johnson; great grandchildren, Elijah Durst, William Durst, Anna Durst, Leyla Durst, Lily Decello, Tinley Johnson and Knox Johnson; and special pet, Lola. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Joan is preceded in death by her brother, Alex R. (Carol) Miller, daughter-in-law Coleen Durst and the father of her children, Frederick (Sharon) Durst of New Glarus.
Following her wishes, A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 11:00am – 2:00pm at the 5th Quarter Bar & Grill, 161 Horizon Drive #110, Verona.
In honor of her wishes, there will be a private burial with her children and grandchildren, where Joan will rest in peace at the Verona Cemetery next to her parents.
Thanks to the staff at Noel Manor Retirement Living and Agrace Hospice for their kindness and compassion. A special thanks to Dr. Ann Evensen at UW Health, Carla and Petra at Agrace Hospice, Greg and Tina at Noel Manor for always being there for her. We are also grateful to her granddaughter, Missy Kakuske, who was able to care for her during the last few weeks of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Joan can be made to Agrace Hospice.

I am acquainted with Joanie via my mother Dotty Loehrer. Sad to hear of her passing. I think Joanie had a better social life than I do! May time transform your grief into beautiful memories. Linda Loehrer

I met Joan through the cooking club at Badger Prairie Needs Network in 2016. She would light up the room and was always the life of the party. I always loved seeing her and her gang at the BPNN community meal on Saturdays. She will be missed. Such a wonderful person. Marcia Kasieta

I met Joan through another friend of mine, Linda Lalor. We all attended the Friday night dance at the VFW on Cottage Grove. I really liked Joan. I visited her at her condo and we went out for fish several times, on Fridays. I was surprised to hear of her passing. Bless all of her family at this difficult time. And bless her soul in heaven.
