Obituary

Mark R. Pressprich, 65, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024 at home in Pleasant Springs, Wisconsin after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mark was born in Saginaw, Michigan to Robert and Charlotte (Eickholt) Pressprich on July 15, 1959. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1977. Mark was passionate about science from an early age and went on to earn a PhD in physical chemistry from Washington State University in 1990. He was known for his innovative approach and willingness to speak his mind and enjoyed a rewarding career as a scientific software developer in his field of x-ray diffraction.

From 1982-1984 Mark served in the U. S. Army and was awarded the U.S. Army Commendation Medal for his service. He then graduated from the Montana Military Academy’s officer training program. He received the Montana Military Academy Distinguished Graduate Award in 1985. Mark served as a platoon leader in the National Guard from 1984 to 1987.

Mark met his wife, Sybil (Turner) Pressprich in Bozeman, Montana. They married in 1986. Mark and Sybil enjoyed hiking, biking, gardening, and home renovation. Mark was a devoted father to his two children, Otto Pressprich and Emily Pressprich. He passed on his love of science and curiosity during “quiz question night”, a game he made up over dinner. He also shared his love of the outdoors with his family through hiking, biking, camping, and skiing adventures.

Mark retired in 2016 and spent his later years growing raspberries and strawberries. He took great pride in growing excellent berries, making jam and selling the fruits of his labor at the local farmer’s market. He also spent many hours renovating his home, learning astrophotography and walking the family dog.

Mark loved life, his family, and the world around us. He will be sorely missed.

A memorial gathering will be held in spring of 2025.

Sybil and family, I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. I had a lot of great conversations while walking with him at the dog park. His jam recipe can not be matched, he put a lot of science behind it. My sincere condolences.

I, as a cousin, babysat Mark. Karen was still a baby and big brother Bill tried to tame Marks antics. Though we've grown apart in the years since I've wondered how he developed. Happy to hear he also had the gardening gene. So sorry he's passed so soon. Love, Diana
