Madison – Mary Anne Marsden, age 91, of Madison died on November 13, 2024. She was born on September 30, 1933, in Madison, Wisconsin to Dr. Wendell and Esther (Wang) Marsden and was the eldest of their five daughters.

Mary Anne graduated from the University Wisconsin High School in Madison and then attended the University of Wisconsin. She was employed as an engineering specialist for 40 years by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation – Highways where she developed many lasting friendships throughout the state.

Mary Anne loved helping others, reading, crafts, attending plays, watercolor painting, and spending time with friends and family. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret, and her brothers-in-law Thomas Corbett, Don Zugschwerdt, and Randall Winch. She is survived her sisters Helen Zugschwerdt, Julia Corbett, and Dorothy (John) Hahn. She is further survived by five nieces and four nephews, plus 8 grand nieces and 10 grand nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood Village Prairie Ridge’s - Tree of Life Chapel, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Bethel Lutheran Church or to Oakwood Preferred Hospice.

I knew MaryAnn at Oakwood East. She always said she spent her career convincing the men she woIked. With , that it was their idea. She was always very friendly and I will miss her. Evie

I had the privilege of working with Mary Marsden at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in the Local Roads and Data Review Section. She was a subject matter expert (SME) long before the term was popular. She was a leader and advisor to staff in eight transportation districts through out the state. Although I was her supervisor she had the unique talent of "managing up." She taught me many things about the transportation industry and data management. Her knowledge and years of experience were the foundation for the creation of the Wisconsin Information System for Local Roads (WISLR). Now all 1922 counties, cities, villages, and towns in Wisconsin have a robust system for managing local roads using advanced technology. She was an outstanding professional, a good friend, a brilliant artist and a beloved servant of Christ. May God Bless her soul Ruben L. Anthony Jr.

Mary Anne was a Clerk 3 for DOT in 1969. I was a LTE. She was so patient and kind to this farm girl. This was my second job right out of High School. Not only did she teach me how to read road maps and make sure that the changes were coded properly, she also taught me to knit patterns. Beyond basic knit and purl. She taught me how to knit panels, that were later sewn together. Those panels were sewn together in 1973 when our son, Eric was born. I think of her often when I look at family pictures and Eric as a baby. I wish I had that pattern now. Mary will always have a special place in my heart.
