Neldine Nichols

Neldine May Nichols, age 94, passed away November 26, 2024, in Sun Prairie, WI. Neldine was born August 25, 1930, in Ashland, WI to Ida Evelyn Tenner and Judson Ray Nichols. Neldine graduated from Washburn High School in 1948 where she was involved in many school activities and was the editor of the school paper her senior year.

Neldine graduated from Madison Area Technical College with an associate’s degree in visual communications in 1976 and begin working for the WI Department of Public Instruction that same year. In that role, she photographed many local events, and her work appeared in the Capital Times and other publications frequently throughout her employment with DPI.

Neldine had a passion for music and taught guitar at MATC for many years. She enjoyed attending local folk song groups and playing music with her children and grandchildren.

Neldine also loved animals and owned a variety of dogs and cats throughout her lifetime.

Neldine is survived by her children, Kurt (Merry Nelson), Kim (Scott), Brian (Sarah) and Kevin; six grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and daughter Lynette.
