Obituary

MADISON – David Leroy Kolmodin, age 77, passed away at his home on Sunday morning, March 23, 2025. Dave was born on June 29, 1947, in Lockport, IL to Hilmer and Lois (Halberg) Kolmodin. He graduated from Lockport High School in 1965. Dave worked at Aquamatic for 30 years then moved to Cottage Grove, WI in May of 2004, where he started working for Hertz at the airport, as a supervisor. He retired on April 30, 2020. Dave married Patti Garde on May 5, 2007, at New Life Church. He was a troop leader for the South Beloit Boy Scouts, volunteer at South Beloit High School, and a longtime member of New Life Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Group.

Dave was an avid baseball fan and loved the Chicago Cubs. He spent summers at the Duck Pond cheering on the Mallards as well as working as a fowliner for several years. Dave took pride in attending his grandson’s baseball games from little league to college. He enjoyed his daily travels, with his granddaughter, from school and to work. Dave had so much pride in his son Paul, traveling to see him in Texas, as often as he could. They both shared a love of Superman and professional wrestling. Paul always referred to his dad as “his hero”.

Dave is survived by his wife of 18 years, Patti; son, Paul Kolmodin of Plano, TX; stepson, Jim (Colleen) Garde of Sun Prairie; grandchildren, Branden and Avery Garde; sister, Donna (Gary) Hiller of Lockport, IL; brother-in-law, Michael (Jennie Watson) Howe of Deerfield, WI; sister-in-law, Joyce Cox of Roscoe, IL; and two nieces, Lisa and Kristin Hiller. He preceded in death by parents; grandson, Cameron Garde; an infant brother; and the mother of his son, Gayle Kolmodin.

A Celebration of Life will be held at NOON, on Friday, March 28, 2025, at New Life Church, 7564 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, with pastor Heather Hayward presiding. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until time of service on Friday at the church. Private burial at Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit, IL at later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at Agrace Hospice, New Life Church, Madison Fire and EMTs, UW Hospital, and Dr. Samantha Shapiro for their loving care and support. To view and sign this guestbook, please visit: www.ryanfuneralservice.com

To Paul and Family - I am so sorry for your loss. As a young person, David, Gayle, and Paul were very close to my family as we saw each other often. David was a gentle soul who loved comics and Chicago Sports. Paul was like an older brother, often sharing with me his love for Nintendo - as he always took time with me. Sending prayers to the family during this difficult time. May God bless you all.
