Lois Rivers

MADISON/MOUNT HOREB – Lois Elaine Rivers, age 77, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016. Lois was born on December 5, 1938 in Mount Horeb, WI to Alvin and Bernice (Mickelson) Thompson. She graduated from Mount Horeb High School and moved to Madison shortly thereafter where she started her family. Lois later attended and graduated from UW Madison with a degree in Occupational Therapy. She worked for many years at M.A.R.C. as an Occupational Therapist, and later as an Administrative Assistant at M&I Bank, retiring in 2001. Lois was a Navy Reservist for ten years, attaining a rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer. She enjoyed bowling, camping, crossword puzzles, Wisconsin history, genealogy, and astrology. Lois will be remembered for her cooking, bringing people together, and being EVERYONE’S Grandma.

Lois is survived by her children, Steven (Marlene) Johnston, Donald Johnston, and Naomi “Nomi”; 13 grandchildren ; 23 great grandchildren; siblings James (Cheryl) Thompson and Pauline Frix, many nieces and nephews; special family friend, Phil Smith, and therapy dog, Samuel “Sam”. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Laura Jean, and brother-in-law, Butch Frix.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH OF MT. HOREB, 315 E Main St., Mt. Horeb, with the Rev. John Twiton presiding. Burial at East Blue Mounds Lutheran Cemetery, Mount Horeb, will follow.
