Obituary
DeForest – Sandy Jahn passed away on April 1, 2016 in Las Vegas, New Mexico, during a vacation trip with family. Sandy was born on August 9, 1943 to William H. Dalton, and Ruth Marie (Padfield) Dalton. Sandy grew up in Madison, WI and graduated from East High School in 1961. In 1962 Sandy married James Tuite and they had three children: Natalie, Paul and Nikki. In 1976 Sandy married Curt Jahn. In 1979 Curt and Sandy jointly started Capital Warehousing with 9,000 square feet along with a transportation division. When the company was sold in 2002, Capitol was operating in excess of 800,000 square feet of warehouse space and a substantial number of over-the- road trucks.
Sandy was a devoted Girl Scout Leader and was the Volunteer Cookie Chairperson for 25 years. Seeing the happiness in the faces of children and watching them enjoy their youth is what inspired her. She loved helping them develop into well-adjusted adults. Because of her outstanding commitment to girls and women, Sandy received the Girl Scouts Thanks Badge and the Thanks Badge II with high honors.
In the early 1980’s Sandy and her husband, Curt, incorporated a phone-order flower business that eventually flourished and is now known as 1-800-FLOWERS. Sandy enjoyed maintaining her residence with many gardens, streams and waterfalls. She was also an avid crafter, producing photo scrapbooks and many cross-stitch and needlework pieces.
Sandy thrived on the company of her children and grandchildren and on their achievements, successes and happiness in basketball and gymnastics. Sandy enjoyed travelling with her husband and friends around the country and the world.
Sandy is preceded in death by her husband, Curt, in 2013. Because of her devotion to her children and her husband’s business, Sandy carried on diligently because she knew that is what Curt would have wanted. Curt always said, “Don’t give up, things always turn out right.” Sandy would want you to know that she found a treasure in her husband and that he was a very warm, loving and generous person.
Sandy is survived by her children Natalie (Steve) Hellenbrand, Paul Tuite, Nicole (Jake) Nicholson, Tori Jahn (Nichole Gordon), her grandchildren, Megan Tuite, Morgan Tuite, Lexi Riggs, Cody Riggs, and Bailey Nicholson, her brothers Craig (Rhea) Dalton, Kirk (Sue) Dalton, and other relatives and friends. A special thanks to her longtime friends, Paul and Nancy Bernander and Judy Blodgett for all the help and consideration they have given over the many years of friendship. Sandy would always reminisce about all the many places they had traveled together enjoying the scenery, getting lost and just having fun!
Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 8 pm on Friday, April 15, 2016, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Roselawn Memorial Park, 705 Femrite Drive, Monona from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am. If Tomorrow Starts Without Me.
When tomorrow starts without me, and I’m not here to see,
If the sun should rise you find your eyes all filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things we didn’t get to say.
I know how much you love me, as much as I love you
And each time that you think of me, I know you’ll miss me too.
But when tomorrow starts without me please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand.
He said my place ready, in heaven far above
And that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But as I turned and walked away a tear fell from my eye.
For all my life I’d always thought, I didn’t want to die.
I had so much to live for, so much left yet to do.
It seemed almost impossible that I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays the good ones and the bad.
I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday, just even for a while,
I’d say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realize that this could never be,
For emptiness and memories would take the place of me.
When I thought of worldly things I might miss come tomorrow
I thought of you and when I did my heart was filled with sorrow.
So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.
