Obituary

Sauk City - Matthew Paul Roherty, age 69, passed away on September 8th, 2025. While our hearts are heavy with the suddenness of his passing, we also find comfort in reflecting on the incredible joy, laughter, and love he brought to all of us. Matt grew up in Madison, WI, went to James Madison Memorial (Class of ‘74) and had a long successful career in sales.

Anyone who knew Matt knew that he was a quiet man, but one who left a big impression on his family and friends. Whether it was his love of golf or his trips to Las Vegas, deer camp with his brother Mike, fine dining, playing the guitar, his large Irish family, the Packers or his competitive spirit at the card table, he always embraced the excitement that life had to offer. But as much as he enjoyed those things, his greatest Love was his wife Kay and his cat Danny.

His presence at any gathering made it feel more special and he will always be remembered for looking sharp in his signature Ralph Lauren, bringing champagne and cocktail shrimp to every holiday and, of course, his sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving. He was generous not just with his time, but with his heart, teaching many of his nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews how to play a game of cards or dice.

Matt is survived by his siblings; Mary Pat Dilley, Maggie (Tony) Juris, Michael (Susan) Roherty, Ann Roberts, his brother in law; Doug (Donna) Woodman, nieces and nephews; Clayton Dilley (Kayla), Wesley (Emily) Dilley, Kellie Juris (Matt), Katie Juris, Matthew (Jessi) Roherty, Megan (Mike) Leviton, Ryan (Renee) Roberts, Erin (Adam) Hanson, Cindy Meis and Nicole Pavelec.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Theresa Roherty, his younger brother Paul Roherty and wife Kay Roherty.

Even though he’s no longer with us, his spirit remains in the memories we share. Until we meet again Matt, forever you’ll be in our hearts.

Special Thanks to the entire staff at University Hospital Neurology Clinic and Agrace in Fitchburg, WI.

I was crushed hearing about Matt. He was probably the closest cousin in age to me. My mom and Aunt Theresa were pregnant at the same time. They always told me that if one of them had a girl, her name would be Theresa and if they had a boy he would be named Matt. I would think of that almost every time I thought about Matt. The last time I saw him was a sad day for both of us. And yet, I am so grateful that I got to visit with him that day. I can’t make it tomorrow. Sending all my love to the rest of the Rohertys. RIP Matt.

I have fond memories of golfing with Matt and his golf partner Rich Hanko every year at the annual devils head outing. Matt was always a great guy to have conversation with and he will be missed. May God's peace be with his family in this difficult time. He is with Kay again

I hadn't seen Matt in probably six years or more until I saw him at Jim's funeral. He was the same guy - a big smile when he saw you, which is how I will always remember him. One of my best memories is spending time at the farmhouse he shared with Mike and Tony, where we got together on weekends to shoot clay birds and play poker. Some of the best games were when Uncles Bill and Tom and the "old man" showed up. A lot of BS and laughs around the table - especially when one of the uncles beat their nephews, or even better, when they beat the "old man". They would just howl. Sorry we won't be able to attend the Irish Wake. Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire Roherty family.

Matt was a fine man and a great brother in law. He truly loved my sister Kay and supported her totally when she became ill. Thank you Matt, your smile and quiet personality will be missed so much. Kay is waiting to welcome you to be at her side once more .
