Obituary

Van Edward Teskey October 10, 1955 - April 3, 2025, Verona, Wisconsin

Today we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved father and friend, Van Edward Teskey. He was 69.

Van grew up in West Virginia and Virginia enjoying meals lovingly cooked by his grandmother, mother, and sister and learning invaluable skills from his father. In Alexandria, VA he attended Groveton High School (1974), and started his life in Wisconsin attending Marquette University (1978). Van had an illustrious career in radio, some highlights including MCing Badger Women’s Basketball, hosting Badgerville, bringing the hits to 101.5 WIBAFM for decades, and, of course, meeting his wife, Susan. Together they raised their children Vanessa, Amie, Tatum, and Tucker. When he wasn’t in the studio, he devoted all his time to his kids; coaching baseball and football, attending practice and games, cooking, baking, and mastering the grill. Van had a personality larger than life and a heart that was even bigger. We will always remember his iconic voice and the way he called everyone “baby.”

Van is survived by his children, Amie (Darrin Riemer), Tatum, and Tucker; nephew, Scott Malkie (Tracey); and grandnephews, Van and Zak Malkie.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Teskey; daughter, Vanessa Muza Teskey; parents, Edward and Garnett Teskey; and sister Jay Teskey.

A Celebration of Van’s Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Ryan Funeral Home, 220 Enterprise Dr, Verona, WI 53593. The visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at the Funeral Home.

I got to know Van as a frequent caller to Madison sports talk radio probably 20 or so years ago. We developed a casual relationship over time and ultimately, he MC'd a fund-raising event for the social service agency where I worked. He was a very kind man.

I remember Van from my days at Liquor Town and seeing him at Miller's in Verona. Always had a smile, a handshake and a kind word for everyone. While a personality on the radio, he was a personality in life. I will miss seeing him but will remember him with a smile.

We shared so much for so very long, and you were never less than a source of light and laughter. My heart breaks beneath the weight of losing you.
