Obituary For Amanda Genevieve Miller

Our smart, beautiful, sweet Mandy passed away on April 23, 2024, after complications from a pulmonary embolism. She was surrounded by love in her final moments. She found happiness with the love of her life, Mike, her parents Don and Kris, brother Charlie and all of her family and friends.

Mandy was born in Madison on September 5, 1990. Her wonderful, happy childhood was spent with her brother, Charlie, and their parents. Many of her favorite moments were spent with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, cherishing the bonds she formed with her family. These relationships played a significant role in shaping the values she held dear throughout her life. She always kept the sweet innocence of her childhood.

Edgewood gave Mandy a strong start for her education, and she took to heart its values of truth, compassion, justice, community, and partnership. She continued her education at Saint Mary’s College, where the close-knit community helped her to grow in understanding herself and her purpose. The dear friendships formed made her days warm and bright. Amanda graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in biology, chemistry, and business. She completed her education in a graduate program at Notre Dame combining her science background with engineering and entrepreneurship.

Mandy’s entrepreneurial spirit and desire to serve others led her to join a clinical trials startup focused on advancing research that saved and improved lives. Over her ten-year career, Mandy developed protocols for budgeting clinical trials, trained employees, and ensured accuracy and compliance. Focusing her work on improving the health and lives of others gave Mandy a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.

With a smile on her face, Mandy filled her life with biking, cooking, crafting, dancing, drinking coffee, following the Royal Family, gardening, going to the library, ice skating, keeping in touch with friends and family, listening to Taylor Swift, planning home renovations, reading, running, sailboat racing, skiing, swimming, tennis, wearing pink, working out at November Project, yoga and finishing out many days taking in the sunset. Mandy especially enjoyed her time sailing on Lake Mendota. At Hoofer’s Sailing Club, she made so many friends and sailed into Mike’s heart.

Mandy’s unwavering cheerfulness was the cornerstone of her character. Her infectious positivity was a defining trait, a sparkling beacon of light that drew others close to her. Even during challenging times, she maintained a steadfast optimism that never wavered, a testament to her inner strength and resilience. Mandy’s charisma didn’t stem from seeking the spotlight, but from the genuine kindness and reliability she offered as a companion. Mandy approached each day with boundless energy, tackling her many activities with a zest that was uniquely her own. While she embraced adventure, her mindful approach was a source of comfort to her friends and family, living life to its fullest while ensuring the well-being of those around her. She was a compass for navigating life’s winding trails, a steady captain in turbulent waters, and the voice of reason and hope in moments of uncertainty. Her authentic warmth brightened the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her legacy of love will continue to live in us, inspiring us to be better versions of ourselves.

Amanda is survived by her loving partner, Michael McAllister, her parents Don and Kristine Miller, brother Charles; grandparents: Suzanne Boerschinger and Merle Tellock, Don and Constance Miller; aunts and uncles: Kathryn (Kevin) Parins, Ginny (Tom) Gerczak, David (Jody) Miller, and Linda (Peter) Leonovicz; cousins: Abbie Gerczak, Joshua Gerczak, Grace Miller, Sophia Miller, Daniel (Alyce) Miller, Joseph Miller, Cole Leonovicz, and Jack (Heather) Leonovicz. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Peter Boerschinger, and her beloved cousin Nicholas Parins.

The family kindly requests that memorial gifts be made to Amanda’s alma mater, Saint Mary’s College (of Notre Dame, Indiana). Gifts can be made online at saintmarys.edu (choose Give) or via check to Saint Mary’s College, 110 Le Mans Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556-5001. I often encountered Mandy & Mike when I was out windsurfing. Mandy was a member of the UW Hoofer sailing club for about 10 years; and was involved in many aspects of the club. I also had many visits with Mike and Mandy as they would walk along the Mendota lakeshore; we would talk about sailing, the weather, whatever ... I think that Mandy was the most positive-thinking person that I've ever met. Pete Mooney

I am saddened beyond words to learn of Mandy's departing from this earth. I witnessed from her earliest days as a child she was a bright light among God's children. My heart goes out to her family and her most loved ones during this difficult time. May her light shine on in all whose lives she touched. Forever.

Amanda was one of the first friends I made when I transferred to Edgewood Campus School in 7th grade. I was a shy kid who didn't know a single person in my new class, and I instantly gravitated towards her quiet kindness and sweet smile. We remained in the same friend group throughout our time at Edgewood High School, though we fell out of touch after graduating. I remember taking Economics with her in our senior year and being so impressed by her business savvy when we partnered for a project on creating a family budget. I'm so glad to hear that she continued to build upon her natural talent as an entrepreneur in her work after college. It's clear to me that while it was far too short, Amanda lived an incredibly full and vibrant life. My sincere condolences to Amanda's family, partner, and friends -- the many people she loved and loved her in return. Amanda, thank you for your friendship all those years ago. My transition to and through Edgewood was easier because you were in my life. Be well, and may you find peace on the other side.

I had the honor and privilege to be Amanda's colleague for nearly 10 years. It's been said by many on our team, but if we could share only a shred of her impact with her family and friends, they would be so proud of how she showed up for her colleagues. She was kind, empathetic, smart, and honest. She left quite a legacy and will not soon be forgotten.

I will greatly miss Mandy on the lakefront and on the T-Dock. I always felt comfortable around her smile and friendliness. It is hard to believe that I won't see her anymore, but after a while it will sink in. My deepest condolences to Mike and her family.

I had the pleasure of working with Amanda at PharmaSeek/WCG. She was always willing to help, share her knowledge and do what she could to make the workday enjoyable. May her family and friends find peace in the wonderful memories of a very special person. My deepest sympathies and ongoing prayers to all of you.

Mandy was such a thoughtful, patient, cheerful, and kind friend, and I will miss her terribly. She was always content and delighted to spend time together doing all the activities we loved: sailing, skiing, running, playing tennis, swing dancing, and watching the sunset over the lake. She helped teach me how to sail in 2019, always supportive and encouraging despite her superior skills. She slowed down her running to match my slow pace, always smiling despite the cold and early mornings. She made everyone around her a better person, and I will hold those lessons close moving forward. My heart goes out to her family and to our community for the loss of such a special person.

I am truly at a loss for words. But I want all of you who knew and loved Amanda to know that she made a tremendous impact on those of us on the faculty in the Biology Department at Saint Mary's College. She was truly a wonderful young woman with so much talent yet was so unassuming and humble. I am incredibly sorry for your loss, and I pray that in the days ahead, you will continuously recall wonderful, precious, life-giving moments with Amanda's. My heart breaks with yours! 💔

What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful human. My beloved Miller family cousins, your love for Mandy radiates from this obituary, just as she radiated love every day of her life. Your Seattle family is sending you all so much love during this terrible time. We are thinking of you and sharing in your grief. May her memory be a blessing.

I was so devastated to hear this horrific news this week. Mandy was (why is such a small word so hard to write?) part of the Miller family, and lucky for me for so many reasons, my brother married a Miller when Mandy was almost two years old. My sister Lisa and I had the great fortune of babysitting for Mandy, and then also for her baby brother Charlie, in our teen years. Mandy loved to bake cookies with me, and we definitely could have been cast in a later (perhaps B team) production of The Little Mermaid given how many times we watched it and sang along together. Mandy embodied goodness from the start. Even as a toddler, she stood apart for her enormous heart, empathy and desire to care for others, especially Charlie. I was so happy to see Mandy and meet Mike at Jack and Heather's wedding this past summer. Mike, I am wrecked to think of your loss. And Miller family, my heart is broken for you all. Mandy made everyone better, and I hope that provides some small comfort to you all in this dark time. To quote Taylor (I'm a fellow Swiftie): "And what if I really thought some miracle would see us through? What if the miracle was even getting one moment with you?"

Oh sweet Amanda. I was devastated to hear of your passing this week- we were just talking about the renovations you were doing to your new house and I never got to say good-bye. You were one of the first friends I met in college and one of the few I have stayed in contact with over the past 11 years. I will treasure the memories we had: joining the Notre Dame squash team without any prior experience, doing intramural volleyball (because the winning prize was a massage), drinking Cabo Wabo margaritas at Hacienda, eating breaking together virtually everyday in college, buying all the latest colorful pens/markers/post it notes etc, watching Bridesmaids on repeat, ice skating/falling, dinners at Notre Dame, dueling pianos, throwing pinecones at windows (whoops).... And the list goes on and on. Once Cooper is born, I will drink a Cabo Wabo margarita and cheers to all the memories we have had. May you rest in peace sweet friend and I look forward to the day we are reunited again. You will be missed. ❤️ To the friends and family of Amanda- I will continue to lift your family up in prayers during this challenging time. Heaven gained one heck of a girl. May you find comfort in knowing Amanda loved each day to the fullest and found joy in even the smallest things!

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
