Obituary For Benedict James "Jim" Neuhauser

Funeral Mass for Jim will stream live on YouTube beginning at 11:00 a.m. CDT on Friday, 03/22/2024. Below is a link to view the St. Thomas Aquinas YouTube Channel. We will begin streaming about 15 minutes before Mass for everyone to get settled to join us in prayer. We encourage those joining online to create a prayerful setting in their home - like a home altar space with a candle, flowers, a picture of Jim, and perhaps a special remembrance. We look forward to praying our Mass together for Jim.

Madison - Benedict James “Jim” Neuhauser died at Agrace Hospice on March 13, 2024 at age 79. He was born May 21, 1944 in Madison, WI, the first child of Benedict and Catherine (Synon) Neuhauser. Jim grew up in Verona, WI and graduated from Edgewood High School (1962) and the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy (1968).

Jim married Mary Josephine Miller on August 24, 1968. They welcomed children, Brad and Laurie in 1970 and 1972. Even as a dedicated pharmacist and small business owner, he always made time for family; the summer vacation to Hayward, WI was a highlight for over ten years. That time was filled with family and friends playing cards, waterskiing and so much laughter. Jim was also an avid gardener, raising over 70 varieties of lilies and tending wildflowers.

Jim served Madison’s west side as a pharmacist for decades, and owned Neuhauser Pharmacy on Monroe Street from 1980 to 2001. He was a charismatic fixture in the community, offering attentive and friendly care to customers and patients.

Known to many as Newey, he was always ready to swap stories and share good food and drink. Jim was a longtime member and past president of Blackhawk Country Club. A committed golfer, Jim managed the rare hole-in-one three times. He and Mary were known for taking vacations anchored by quality golf courses.

Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary, of Madison; two children, Brad (Dana) Neuhauser of Minneapolis and Laurie (Steve) Sjolund of Bonney Lake, WA; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joshua, and Sarah Neuhauser, and Emma and Adam Sjolund; four siblings, Jerry (Linda) Neuhauser, Cathie Sanders, Connie Kwilasz, and Jeff Neuhauser; in-laws Jim (Mary Jo) Miller; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Dr, Madison, WI. A visitation will take place one hour prior to Mass, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a light luncheon following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to First Tee of South Central Wisconsin, firstteescw.org, or the charity of your choice.

Please join in a Celebration of Jim’s Life on Sunday, May 26, 2024, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Blackhawk Country Club, 3606 Blackhawk Drive, Madison, WI. To view and sign the guestbook, please visit www.ryanfuneralservice.com.

  • March 22, 2024

I was honored to have Jim as a life-long friend; a friend who provided his friendship unconditionally. I always enjoyed his stories about our past triumphs and mis-adventures...particularly the way they were enhanced over time! I will miss him greatly.

I am so very sad to hear of Jim's passing. To my cousin may you join your eternal family and be free of pain. To your family here, may you be comforted in knowing you have another angel on your shoulder. I love you all! God Bless! Cindy Neuhauser

We played many rounds of golf during the summer with Jim and Mary on Friday and Sunday afternoons. Always a lot of fun and a highlight of our summers in Madison. Jim was one of the really good guys, he will be missed - a lot. Condolences to Mary. Tom Jones and Sue Chemerow

Condolences sent to Jim's family. I worked as a pharmacy tech and cashier at Neuhauser pharmacy for Jim many years ago. He was a wonderful person and gave me the opportunity to work for him guiding me in the healthcare profession. I am forever greatful for Jim❤️

For many decades Neuhauser's has been our pharmacy. Jim always made it a warm and welcoming place, and that continued when Peg became the pharmacy's owner and provider. The owners and staff have consistently been considerate, friendly, and efficient. Jim was a great representative of the spirit and helpfulness of this special business. We are saddened by the news of his passing.

From 1970 to the present, Neuhauser's has been our go-to pharmacy. Jim always made it a welcoming place, and that has continued under Peg's ownership. We are saddened by the news of his passing.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
