Obituary For Catherine Mary (Adler) Andersen

Madison- Catherine Mary (Adler) Andersen, age 95, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2024, in the presence of family. She was born December 26, 1928, in Ashton Corners, the daughter of Joseph and Odelia (Wipperfurth) Adler. Catherine was united in marriage to William Andersen on November 4, 1950, in Madison and raised four children: Joseph Andersen, Donald Andersen, Thomas Andersen, and Ann (Schaefer) Andersen, on the Northside of town.

Catherine attended Edgewood High School in Madison. Catherine had an innate ability to nurture and put this to use while her children were young when she took a job at Sherman School, spending time with children in the lunchroom, Catherine also enjoyed working as an Election Poll Worker. Later in life, she happily spent summers caring for her own grandchildren; each left with many loving, laughter-filled memories which included (naming just a few) candy, stickers, macaroni & cheese, sleepovers, bus, taxi rides. She also loved making up intricate stories and was so convincing when she told them that everyone believed them no matter how impossible they seemed.

Catherine was exceptionally kind and accepting of everyone she met and always left a smile on the faces of those she spoke with. She was a lover of animals and Wisconsin sports, especially Badger and Packers

Catherine is survived by her sons, Donald (Maria) Andersen, Thomas (Caroline) Andersen; daughter Ann (Kevin) Schaefer; daughter-in-law Luz (Joseph) Andersen; grandchildren, Reyna (Pat) McNamar, Aaron (Jennifer) Andersen, Lia (Tibor) Zana, Jessica (Marcus) Peterson, Kristin (Jeff) Jacoby, Lizzy Schaefer, Egan (Linda Gomez) Schaefer, Benny Schaefer; and great-grandchildren Jesse Joe (Bridget Droes) McNamar, Julia McNamar, Jaden Zana, Tristan Zana, Margot Peterson, Tyler Jacoby, and Reese Jacoby. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Odelia Adler, son, Joseph Andersen.

As Catherine aka “Ma”, “Grandma Tootsie”, “Grandma Ma”, “Grandma Cathy” would say; “I love you, a bushel and a peck/A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.”

Catherine was one of the kindness women I've ever known. An angel on earth and now in heaven. To the entire Anderson family. We are sorry for your immense loss. God bless you all in these saddest of times. From a long ago neighbor, friend and recipient of some of Catherine's warm school lunches. Chuck Stoflet and family

Such a sweet lady, I remember her as always laughing or smiling. I grew up one door away from Catherine. Me and my siblings were friends with her children. I remember her as a crossing guard helping us cross the street walking to and from school. My sympathy to her family.

Catherine was one of many reasons why growing up on Northwestern Ave. were some of the best childhood memories. I remember her in the fondest of ways. Margie (Stoflet) Shafer

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
