Obituary For Cris Eric Olson

Cris Eric Olson, cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away on March 27, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI. Heaven has embraced him.

Born on November 24, 1961, in Manitowoc, WI, to Del and Grace (Bausch) Olson. Cris is survived by his wife, Pam (Otto) Olson; sons Cameron (Tyler Hahn) and Casey, all residing in the Madison area; three sisters, Judy Alexander (Michael) of Holiday, FL, Kathy Fischer (Al) of Naperville, IL, and Karen Olson (Marilyn Gruenberg) of New Glarus, WI; brother-in-law Randy Otto; three nieces, Carrie (Larry), Ashley Kib (David), and Lauren (Luis); along with several cousins and friends, all whom he treasured.

After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1980, he pursued further education at Lakeshore Technical College, earning an associate degree in business in 1982. Continuing his academic journey, Cris obtained a bachelor's degree in 1990 from Lakeland University in Sheboygan, WI.

Throughout his career, Cris dedicated himself to various educational institutions, including the Manitowoc Public Schools, Madison College, and, most recently, MTILP (Mobility, Training & Independent Living Program), where he passionately coached workers with disabilities.

Cris was an avid sports fan who deeply loved the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, and Wisconsin Badgers. He loved Lake Michigan, especially Manitowoc, where he lived most of his life. Cris found joy in reading, especially about history. He also enjoyed cool classic cars, cooking, and making pickles following his dad’s recipe. His compassion extended to animals through his volunteer work with Lakeshore Humane Society in Manitowoc, where he fostered and walked dogs, eventually adopting his beloved dog Evelyn through their fostering program.

Known for his kind-hearted nature, Cris possessed a remarkable gift for helping others. He was a handyman who was always willing and ready to help anyone in need. His smile and hugs were his trademark, and his laugh could light up a room. A gentle and loving soul, he left a lasting impact wherever he went.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, 220 South Main St, DeForest, WI. The Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of Cris be made to his current employer, MTILP (Mobility, Training & Independent Living Program), a non-profit at 2502 Whalen Ln, Madison, WI 53713, or to Lakeshore Humane Society at 1551 North 8th St, Manitowoc, WI 54220.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
