Obituary For Daniel J. Wiedenfeld

Daniel J Wiedenfeld, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born on April 27, 1934, to Myron and Dorothy in Lone Rock, WI.

Dan graduated from Madison East High School in 1952 and soon after followed in his uncle Leo Olson’s footsteps by joining the US Marines. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego before being deployed to Korea where he boxed and won several Marine Corps boxing Championships. He often spoke of his 2 years in the military as a wonderful experience enabling him to travel to different parts of the world. In April 2015 Dan was honored to participate in the Badger Honor Flight.

Upon returning from Korea, Dan continued to box and trained with the UW boxing team. He continued to win fights and was ultimately a Golden Glove Boxing Champion in 1953. In addition, he was an avid baseball player trying out for the St Louis Browns baseball team of the American League.

After hanging up his boxing and baseball gloves, Dan owned and ran several restaurants in the area. He always hosted for his restaurants. This enabled him to meet people and build relationships. He opened Lindy’s on Lake Waubesa, Mr D. Steakhouse in Spring Green and Dan’s Steakhouse in Sun Prairie. Dan continued to enjoy being around friends and relatives in his retirement as he frequented the American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by his identical twin brother, Don of Westport, his son Steve (Debbie) of Franklin, grandsons Brent (Reggie) of Celina, Texas and Brandon (Caroline) of Wauwatosa. He is further survived by his nieces and nephews and their children whom he spoiled with exorbitant amounts of $2 bills. Dan’s warm and witty personality will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 27, 20024 at American Legion Post 481, 5337 W River Rd, Waunakee, WI.

Met Dan selling property for Natural Lakes Realty in Boulder Junction, WI. Good salesman but had a shady partner (Dave Goff). Bought anyhow. Last saw him at restaurant in Spring Green. Rest in Peace. Bruce Weber

Our sincerest condolences to brother Don and the entire Wiedenfeld family. We sincerely regret that we cannot attend the celebration of life as I have been kicked out of Post 481 for life. Mike and I loved seeing Dan and Carole and Dan's humor and Carole's treats. He is missed by many and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all who knew him. RIP Dan.

Uncle Dan was full of life and a pleasure to be around. My fondest old memories were family gatherings playing euchre with the big Wiedenfeld family! So much fun was had by all. He will be missed by so many. My heart goes out to the entire family.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
