Obituary For David "Dave" W. Bormett

Madison – David “Dave” W. Bormett, age 80, passed away on March 8, 2024, after a brief struggle with cancer which never overpowered his positive outlook on life. He was born on February 4, 1944, in Madison, Wisconsin to parents John and Meta (Morgan) Bormett.

Dave began his career as a chemical engineer at the U.S. Forest Products Lab and later retired from there. He was united in marriage to Sharon (Shea) Bormett at St. James Catholic Church in 1966. Dave was a passionate and dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus Council 531, where he met many friends throughout the years. He loved traveling to Branson, MO with his wife, visiting his grandkids, hosting large family gatherings, keeping his yard and roses meticulous, and lighting up his house for Christmas. He enjoyed 46 years with his neighbors, sharing scotch and cigars with some. He was always willing to help anyone with his time or toolbox.

Dave is survived by his wife Sharon; 3 children Kate (Chad) DeNamur and their children Jack and Matthew; Kristi (Kelly) Shipley and their children Alek and Anna; and Steve Bormett; sisters-in-law Betty Bormett, Ginny Bormett, and Peggy York; brothers-in-law Dan (Marilyn) Shea, Pat (Mary) Shea, Mike (Sara) Shea; and his adored nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers Dick and Jim Bormett; brother-in-law Don York; mother and father-in law Earl and Winnie Shea.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ICU Care Team and Oncology Team at St. Mary’s Hospital for their care of Dave; as well to his entire family, friends, and neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Queen of Peace Endowment Fund or to the Knights of Columbus Council 531.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Rd; and on Thursday at the church from 9:30 until the time of Mass. Dear Sharon, Dave will be tremendously missed. He was the epitome of a family man. I loved his stories, his laugh and his smile. I am so grateful that Rich and I were able to visit when we were in Wisconsin in the summer of 2021. Please know you and your family are in our hearts and prayers. Love, Karen Shea Dufresne

So sorry to learn of Dave's passing. I know Dave from the Forest Products Laboratory. He was always friendly and upbeat. He arranged for our daughter to have her wedding reception at the Knights of Columbus hall back in 1994. Wishing peace and comfort to all now and in the days to follow.

Dave has always been a source of wisdom, humility, and humor. He lived a life of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism as one of the most genuine, kind people I have ever met. Cheers to your next Adventure, Dave. We have been lucky to have Dave in our lives. Deepest Sympathy to the Bormett Family.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
