Obituary For Hulda Wesner
Verona/Stoughton – Hulda Wesner passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the age of 96 surrounded by her four children. She was born in Bern, Switzerland on June 15, 1926, to Edward and Hulda (Berner) Vollenweider. She came to the United States as an infant and was raised in New Glarus, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of Madison West High School in 1944. She married Lee Wesner on April 19, 1947. They moved around multiple times before building their own home in Verona in 1958. They raised their four children and taught them all the meaning of hard work and family values. She loved each one of her children unconditionally and taught them so many of life’s lessons, the greatest of which was generosity. Hulda was generous beyond measure. Always willing to do for others and give of herself and her resources. She was a wonderful cook and taught her girls how to fill multiple freezers in order to give away meals to others. She could yodel her way into your heart, and we have fond memories of her yodeling at many gatherings. Now, she’s yodeling with the angels.
In 1964, she and Lee started Verona/Wesner furniture store on the west side of Verona. Together they worked tirelessly there and once again taught their children what hard work could accomplish. All four of their children worked there over the next 17 years.
Hulda worked at Carnes Corp in Verona and for the Verona School District as a lunch lady for 16 years. She retired from the school at the age of 84. She loved the students and the wonderful teachers that became like family to her. In 2010, she left her home of 52 years and moved to Sugar Creek apartments in Verona. There she made more dear friends including her Monday bridge ladies Helen, Arlene, Janice, and Marilyn. They meant the world to her, and she looked forward to seeing them each week. Hulda is survived by her 4 children Nancy Sisulak of Stoughton, Mark (RoxAnne) Wesner of Prairie Du Sac, Chris (Tim) Rice of Verona, and Scott (Sue) Wesner of Elkhorn; 6 grandchildren John (Lisa) and Jenny Sisulak, Andy (Jessie) and Karen Rice (David Osterman), Adam (Cassandra) Wesner and Elaine (Joe) Sellenheim; and 9 very special great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Ruth Esser of Madison and sister-in-law Rae Jensen of Kenosha, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years Lee, her parents, and brothers Edward and Henry Vollenweider; and nephew Ed Vollenweider.
As per her wishes a private family burial will take place. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and nurses at Agrace. Especially nurse Emi and Raquel. Your love and care for Hulda was greatly appreciated over the last 2 months. Thank you also to friends and family that have supported us through this journey with mom. And finally, a special thank you to Nancy, who has cared for mom unselfishly for these past 3 years. Your compassion, patience, and love for mom never waivered and we are so grateful for you.
