Obituary For John Charles Brauch

John Charles Brauch, age 83, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Badger Prairie Healthcare. He was born on August 3, 1940, to Fremont and Emmy (Pommerening) Brauch in Milwaukee, WI.

John attended and graduated in June of 1954 from Thompson Avenue Elementary School in what today is St. Francis, Wisconsin. He went on to Boy’s Technical High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating in June of 1958. As a flutist in its band, John received an award for being one of Milwaukee’s high school top musicians. After graduation, John worked for a short time as an apprentice machinist for Falk Corporation, a large gear manufacturer in Milwaukee. Following this, he had the opportunity to attend Bob Jones University, a Christian-based liberal-arts college in Greenville, South Carolina. He was there for two years where he majored in music.

John then joined the Army and was sent to a military music school in Washington, D.C. He studied there during the presidency of John F. Kennedy and had the opportunity to play for him. Following John’s musical training in Washington, D.C., he was assigned to the 5th Army Band which was based in Fort Sheridan, Illinois. There he played in many concerts and parades. John was honorably discharged in 1964. Institutionalized later for health reasons, he continued to play his flute, and enjoyed painting and listening to classical music.

John is survived by his brother, David (Joanne) Brauch and many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

John’s family would like to thank the staff of Walworth’s Inspiration Ministries, Dane County’s Badger Prairie Health Care Center, and Madison’s VA Hospital for their very competent and compassionate care for John over a number of years.

A private Remembrance Service for John’s family was held at Madison’s Sunset Memory Gardens followed by military honors.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
