Obituary For Karen Louise Klang

DeForest – Karen Louise (Vant) Klang, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Meriter Hospital in Madison. She was born at home in Wisconsin on April 5, 1941, the daughter of Lee and Wilma (Smith) Vant. Karen graduated from Central High School in Madison. Karen married Kenneth “Joe” Klang in Madison on June 10, 1961. She worked in food service at the Central Wisconsin Center for 30 years until her retirement in 2003.

Some of Karen’s fondest childhood memories were the times she spent with her grandparents, Harold and Grace Reid, on their farm in Briggsville, WI. Karen enjoyed watching old westerns, doing word search puzzles, fishing, and most of all, time spent cuddling with her faithful dachshund, Fritzi.

Karen is survived by her children, Greg (Stephanie) Klang, Lori (Steve) Anderson and John Klang; a grandson, Joey Klang; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Klang; parents, Lee and Wilma Vant; and siblings, Sharon, Carol, William “Bill” and Tim.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ringdahl for his many years of compassionate care, the staff of East Madison ER and Meriter ICU for their exceptional care they provided to Karen.

I would be a third cousin to Karen. Her Grandma Grace Reid was my Grandma Madelyn Treadway's sister. My Mother Donna and Wilma were first cousins. Grace and Harold were simply some of the best people on earth. I met Karen a few times with my Mother. We visited her home. She was a nice lady. I can imagine she had the time of her life, on that farm. I have pictures of my Mother chasing the chickens. You don't know me, but I recognized the name as I did Carol's. My sincere condolences to your family. Sincerely, Robyn Kroetz

I worked with Karen at CWC for the last 7 years before she retired. She was such a kind person and we had a good time working together. She passed on her recipe for poppyseed torte to make at our work pot lucks and I have always thought of her so fondly. My condolences and prayers for her family.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
