Obituary For LeRoy R. Hall

I am from 100 acres in rural Wisconsin

Teeming with holsteins, work horses, and chickens

I am from threshing, plowing and baling

And rubbernecking on the party line

I am from Louise’s home baked bread drenched in butter

And klub, rummegrot, and sandbakkles on Syttende Mai

I am from Bjornstad laughter, Hall work ethic

And shenanigans with the Running boys.

I am from small town pool halls, greased back hair

And cigarettes rolled up in shirt sleeves

I am from Norwegian spoken and understood,

“Oom Pa Pa bands” and family gatherings

I am from freckles darkening in the sun,

And baby blues catching Cathy entering Westby High.

I am from the class of ‘57 and a desire for something new

amid Herman’s protests “Uff Da!”

I am from Coeur D’Alene Idaho where I married Cathy

And Tacoma, Washington- Airman First Class

I am from a green ranch in DeForest

Rick constantly on the move and Lisa on the way

I am from the backyard garden, bowling teams,

And lutefisk dinners at Christ Lutheran Church

I am from overtime at Oscar Mayer,

weekends boating on Green Lake, and family dinner conversations

I am from fatherhood:

Watching Disney under the patchwork afghan with Lisa

Playing catch in the backyard with Rick

Making Sunday breakfast and coaching softball

Birthday parties and holiday feasts

Lefse grills and Krumkake

Bike rides and Hayward vacations.

I am from hospitals and grief, loneliness and heartache.

Burying Cathy far too young.

I am from Spectacle Lake

The American Legion and Easy Eagles

Grandbabies running nudie on the dock

Fishing to “TUNA!” and “Jerk you jerk!”

Deer hunting and bonfires, water skiing and paddle boating

Battling mice, wasp nests, and red squirrels

And (usually) coming out the victor

I am from a second chance at love with Sue

The RV rolling from Texas to Canada, Arizona to Alaska

I am from a gated community in Fort Myers

And memorable golfing buddies.

Honing my carving skills and dabbling in paint.

I am from Brewers, Packers, Bucks and Badgers.

I am from fun loving neighbors, lifelong friends

And loyal dogs excited to see me

I am from laughter and tears, but mostly laughter

I am from a life well lived.

Ricky and Lisa So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Absolutely Love his Obituary. We had the good fortune of seeing your Dad and Sue when they were camping at Goose Island in 2004. Prayers for You and Your Families

LeRoy and I were both first and second cousins to each other as our fathers, Reuben and Herman, who were brothers, married our mothers, Myrtle and Louise, who were first cousins. The two families farmed together for more than ten years and then my father bought the farm next to this one, so LeRoy and I would walk along the railroad tracks to continue to play together. LeRoy's brother, Junior, was older and often busy with his motorcycle and helping out on the farm. Both were more like brothers than cousins to me, and I loved them both. We grew up, got married, and then in the summer, I'd bring my daughter Christine to my mother's house in Westby, and LeRoy and Cathy would bring their daughter Lisa from DeForest to Westby so the girls could play together for a week. Over the years, LeRoy and I stayed in touch mostly by phone. He never lost his Norwegian-American accent, and I found myself sometimes echoing it as we talked. I'm eighty-eight years old now, and I think I can say, "You did well in life. I will always remember you. And see you soon..."

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
