Madison-

Nancy M. Ryder, age 86, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at her home, surrounded by family. She was born on October 28, 1936 in Escanaba, Michigan, the daughter of Rene and Eileen (Flemal) Carignan. Nancy grew up in Baraboo and later moved to Madison. Nancy was married to the late Richard Hanson in 1953 and together they had 5 children. She worked as a CNA at Central Wisconsin Center for 25 years. On September 1, 1995 she was united in marriage to Theodore R. “Ted” Ryder.

Nancy enjoyed playing Euchre and Cribbage, as well as going to the Casino. She was an avid Packer and Badger fan. Most of all, Nancy loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her by her husband, Ted; her children, Jeanne Schrenk and Randall Hanson; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two beloved great-great-grandchildren, Rosabella and Jeffrey; two sisters, Joanne Braun and Mary Carignan; and 4 brothers, Tom, Larry, Frank and Michael Carignan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Richard; 3 children, Linda Roll, Richard “Dick” Hanson Jr. and Eileen Griffiths; grand-daughter, Jennifer Waite, great-grandson, Joseph Waite and brother, Don Carignan.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date at Highland Memory Gardens.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to SSM Health at Home Hospice, the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and especially, Elizabeth, Jodie and Sharon for the wonderful care they gave Nancy.
