Obituary For Patricia Zimbrick

Madison - Patricia (“Pat”) Zimbrick, age 92, peacefully passed away at home on October 31. She led an amazing and full life, always doing good and putting others first.

Pat (Mrs. Z, Grandma Z) was born in Hobart, Indiana. She and her mother Josephine Kubiak lived with her grandparents, together with 8 uncles and aunts. After her high school graduation, she did office work. In 1946, one of those uncles introduced Pat to a marine buddy named John Zimbrick. They were married in 1951 and the love story continued for the next 72 years. John worked hard and built a successful business, but he would tell you that Pat was the reason for his success. Pat would make boxed dinners and deliver them to John at night, as he worked until 10 p.m. most nights. When John bought his first dealership in Madison, Pat and John would clean the dealership floors on Sunday as money was tight. Pat also enjoyed decorating, and would single handedly put up Christmas decorations in all of the showrooms well into her 70s. It was an amazing partnership as well.

Pat was also a wonderful mother and grandmother, always putting others first. All meals were home cooked for her family (and anyone else there), and she constantly took her sons to sporting activities. She also typed their high school papers in a crunch. She helped in the community with Meals on Wheels for many years. Pat put others first. She was a “super mom”. Pat was also a super grandmother, going to many artistic and sporting events, and especially liked hosting the grandchildren in Florida.

Florida was her “happy place”. She loved entertaining and had many themed parties, even if they were just cocktail parties. She had every centerpiece, glass, plate, napkin, and food for each themed event. We still have many of those themed items in the basement!

The last few years were difficult, as Parkinson’s disease left Pat dependent on others for the first time in her life. She was always the one to serve others, so when the disease progressed, the tables were turned. It was a privilege to help, and many family members along with live in caregivers, joyfully helped to care for Pat. We wish to especially thank all who provided special care to Pat over the past 2 years-Melissa Lendborg and the Agrace Hospice Team, Jeri Dobson, Steve Nelson, the caregivers at the Mongolian Caregiver Network, Bea Nolan, and many others. We are grateful for the cards, phone calls, and visits that many friends bestowed upon Pat so that she truly felt loved.

Pat was a role model for many, even at the end of her life. Pat and John never ceased holding hands each and every day and showing their love each and every day, and together lived their Catholic faith.

Pat is survived by her loving husband John; sons, Tom and Mike; daughter-in-law, Marykay; grandchildren, John, Leisa, Joel, Nikky, and Ella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 2438 Atwood Ave, Madison with Father Michael Radowicz presiding on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at noon, with a visitation beginning at 10:30am. A reception at Maple Bluff Country Club will follow the mass. Donations are requested to be sent to Agrace Hospice, St. Mary’s Foundation, and St. Bernard’s of Madison. We will miss you Mom and you will always be in our hearts. To view and sign this guestbook, please visit: www.ryanfuneralservice.com.

Pat and John have been the best and dearest of neighbors/friends, and Pat will be much missed. Pat was incredibly caring and thoughtful; every week, she would leave fresh Gatorade's for the village personnel on top of their garbage cans! I was fortunate to do landscape work at the Zimbrick's house as a young man. Mrs Zimbrick would always invited us in to her nice white kitchen for morning buns and milk on our morning break. We were never clean and probably a bit crude, but we were treated with respect and appreciation. A few years ago, after many years had passed, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mrs Zimbrick again and was happy to have the opportunity to tell her how much her kindness meant to a young, dirty landscaper all those years ago. I have a feeling there are probably a lot of similar stories about her that could be told. My condolences to the Zimbrick family, Brian

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
