Obituary For Paul L. Cardarella

MADISON- Paul L. Cardarella, age 91, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg, WI, surrounded by family. Paul was born on December 18, 1932, to Anthony and Anna (Covernali) Cardarella in Madison, WI.

Paul was born into a family of 14, growing up in the Madison Greenbush Neighborhood. Paul became a provider for his family at the early age of 14 washing dishes after school at Tiny's Italian restaurant. He worked at Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District from 1951 to 1994 without missing a single day of work. Paul also maintained a second job at Madison Bank & Trust, working at night and weekends for over 25 years to make sure his family was provided for.

Paul was a dedicated family man who provided care for the members of his family on a daily basis and in times of need. He instilled the values of putting others first, embracing simplicity, and to "make the best of it", into his children. Until his final day with us, he provided extra loving care for his son, Jon, who has special needs.

Paul favored classical movies, listening to top hits from Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, dancing, fishing, playing cards with friends, and time walking and playing fetch with his dog "Max". Later in life, he enjoyed visits with his family's furry friends, always waiting with a treat in hand. Paul made sure to have holiday and weekend visits with Jon, often spending time bowling or going to the movies together. He also loved sitting on his front porch, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, with many friends and family stopping by to say hello.

Paul is survived by his children, Jeff Cardarella of Madison, Randy (Carrie) Cardarella of Poynette, Christy (Tom) Dwyer of McFarland, and Jon Cardarella of Watertown; grandchildren, Paul (Kara Navin) Cardarella, Monica (Aaron) Miles, Emily (Keaton) Kuykendall, Nick (Shannon Lawver) Cardarella, Kashten Cardarella, Travis Cardarella, Jake (Noelle Bock) Dwyer, Danica (Erik Blank) Dwyer; great grandchildren, Ella Miles, Asa Miles, Sofia Cardarella, Jack Cardarella, Lorenzo Cardarella, Drake Kuykendall, Weston Kuykendall, Moses Cardarella, Cohen Ives, Breken Ives, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Nick and Steve (Joan); five sisters, Fran, Mary Jane, Rosie, Ann “Betty”, Angie; and eight brothers, Vito, Tony, Carl, George, Albert, Pete, Joseph and infant, Angelo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH at the ST. JAMES CHURCH, 1128 St. James Ct., Madison, WI. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass at church. He will then be laid to rest at SUNSET MEMORY GARDENS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family or Prader-Willi Homes, where his son, Jon Cardarella, resides. Doherty Home, P.O. Box 278, Dousman, WI 53118.

Condolences

  • March 19, 2024

My condolences to all those that knew & loved Paul. Paul played a major role in my family back in 1978. Bob Beaudette, Paul & other metro grow guys were playing softball. Bob had a heart attack @28 yrs old. Our 2 sons were at the game. Paul called the ambulance, waited for it to come, and then took my boys to my sisters house. (I was at work). Paul visited Bob in the hospital and our home. Bob also grew up in the 'Bush' so they had things in common. He was highly regarded in our family and we were very grateful to him. Once Paul retired, we did not see him but he will never be forgotten. He likely never told you of his kindness to us. I am Bob's wife, Linda. Bob passed away a year ago. God bless all of you & may God comfort your aching hearts. With heartfelt sympathy.. Linda Beaudette

Paulie - we were lucky enough to have you as a neighbor. You were like family to us and am so thankful for the great/fun memories we had spending time with you. Rest in peace and you will be forever remembered. On a positive note, today we will be having a baby boy, I'm sure you would have been happy to hear that! Stephan

We were his next door neighbor during our time at UW Madison. His was the best neighbor you could ever ask for. We used to hang out with Paul and have a couple Korbel and coke and talk about life and he tells us stories. We will truly miss him! Is there a link we can donate money towards the funeral?

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
