Madison - Shirley Ann Annen, age 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born on July 14, 1941 to Norbert J. and Margaret A. (McCarten) Mack. Shirley graduated from Edgewood High School. She had a strong work ethic. Upon completing high school she worked at Mutual Service, many secretarial positions at the University of Wisconsin. For 32 years Shirley dedicated her time to working as a concession manager for the W Club for a variety of athletic events.
Shirley married the love of her life, Daniel P. “Bear” Annen on August 1, 1964 at St. James Catholic Church, Madison. Together they were blessed with two daughters, Margaret and Sarah. She generously devoted her life to her family and instilled strong values of compassion, patience, understanding and open mindedness in her children. Shirley loved to cook, garden, entertain guests and chat on the telephone. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, National Catholic Foresters and was an involved parent in her children’s life and education.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Daniel; her daughters, Margaret and Sarah Annen; siblings, Kathleen Meinholz, Michael (Fran) Mack and Rose (Colin) Scott; several beloved nieces and nephews and many other family and friends she held near and dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, loving aunts and uncles and her nephew, Steve Meinholz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 Good Shepherd Parish at St. James Catholic Church, 1128 St. James Court, with Msgr. Thomas Baxter officiating and Fr. John Meinholz concelebrating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Orest Kostelyna, UW Home Health, Ryan Brothers Ambulance and the staff and doctors from St. Mary’s Hospital that cared for Shirley over the years.
