Madison- Joyce Elaine Petersen, age 91, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020 peacefully in bed at her westside home with her children at her side. Joyce was born on March 27, 1929 in Tyler Minnesota to Andy and Olga Petersen.
Joyce grew up in Tyler and was the eldest of five children. She was well liked in High School. One yearbook photo of her had the caption calling her “The gal with lots of pep”. That was Joyce alright! Through her late teens and early adulthood, she was a clerk at Vadheim’s which was the local drugstore and soda fountain. Then at a train station in Chicago she met her future husband James Collins. They settled in Madison, had 3 girls, a boy, and remained married until 1975. During those years Joyce was involved in the daily operations at the family’s restaurants. She then went onto worked at the Methodist Hospital until 1981. In the following years she remained full of energy with daily activities of shopping, and dining. Joyce also enjoyed listening to jazz and her favorite Bands Procol Harum and Fruitcake. In her most recent days, she could be found watching her British mysteries, Perry Mason and the new Magnum P.I. with her loyal companion, her son Dirk at her side.
Joyce was a remarkable woman. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
