MADISON – Loretta A. Nordness, age 95, passed away peacefully, early on Friday, November 13, 2020 at McFarland Villa Assisted Living. Loretta was born on September 2, 1925 in Martinsville, WI to Peter and Gertrude (Endres) Laufenberg. She grew up on the family farm in Martinsville with her six siblings. Loretta lived with her sister, Valeria, and they both worked at AT&T in downtown Madison before marrying the love of her life, Idore Nordness. After Idore would come home from work, she would help put the kids to sleep and work the late shift at St. Mary’s Hospital as a nursing assistant in the pediatric unit. She was a longtime member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Loretta enjoyed gardening, shopping, bicycling, running, and especially doing things with her kids. As her children got older they enjoyed camping trips together. Her son, Jimmy, her extended family, and friends will greatly miss her.
Loretta is survived by her son, James “Jim”; grandson, Shane; sister, Genny (Conrad) Markley; and sister-in-law, Agnes Laufenberg. She is further survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Idore; son, John “Jack”; and siblings, Leonard Laufenberg, Robert “Bob” (Mona) Laufenberg, William “Willie” Laufenberg, Valeria (Leo) Krantz, and Rita (Al) Amdahl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Friday November 27, 2020 at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison. A visitation will be held from 10AM until time of Mass on Friday at the church. Burial at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Waunakee.
