MADISON - Michael F. Sorge (Mike, Mickey) passed away peacefully Sunday evening February 2, 2020 at age 90. He was born in Madison on May 22, 1929 and was the adopted son of Ralph and Icel Leah (Crall) Sorge.

Mike attended schools in Madison, Reedsburg, Richland Center and Alexandria, VA and graduated from Madison West High School in 1948. He enlisted in the US Navy and served his country during the Korean conflict. He began employment in 1949 with the U.S. Post Office as a mail clerk and registry supervisor for 40 years, retiring in 1989.

Growing up Methodist, Mike converted to Catholicism in his teens and remained in that faith until his death. He was an avid old movie lover and expert and could name the Best Picture, Best Actor/Actress, and Best Supporting Actor/Actress from every movie from 1930 to 1960. His daughter and youngest son both got middle names from two of his favorite stars, Carole Lombard and Sir Laurence Olivier.

He married Dorothy M. Frederick on April 24, 1954 at St. James Catholic Church in Madison. Together they had 4 children, Nancy, Kevin, Michael David and Kenneth. Mike and Dorothy celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2019.

In 1995, by divine intervention, Mike was able to meet and form new bonds with a couple of his biological siblings and their families - Frederick (Mary) McConnell of Oxford, WI and Ruby Brewer from Oklahoma City, OK.

Mike is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Nancy Shimeall (Dan), son Kenneth, 6 grandchildren: William Georgeson, Joseph Georgeson (Maxinne), Christopher Georgeson (Jennifer), Charles Shimeall (Elizabeth), Angela Sorge (Tim Spinler) and Dustin Sorge (Deb Sas); great-grandchildren Mason Georgeson, Carson Georgeson, Xander Spinler, Milo Spinler and Kira Sorge. He is further survived by his adoptive family nieces and a nephew, and the McConnell and Brewer families.

Mike was pre-deceased by his sons Kevin and Michael David, parents Ralph and Icel Sorge, sisters Ellen Parks (Robert) and Betty Sorge O’Brien (Patrick), Frederick McConnell and Ruby Brewer.

The family would like to thank the staff of Oak Park Place and Agrace Hospice for their wonderful and compassionate care to Mike this past month.
